I believe that students of film inherited broadcast television in the 90's and started to bring a "theater experience" to one's living room. The level of production between TV and film was so drastically different and has since been leveled with shows like Mad Men, 6ft Under, True Blood...etc.
I think its clear now that Photographers have inherited the web and bring "print type" imagery and journalism to motion content embedded on website's identical to the traditional news stand:
