No matter how commercial a print job, there will always be a way to capture a photograph within the restrictions you are given by the client which feels like "yours." Doing this with enthusiasm and ambition isn't hard for me- i love taking pictures.
The problem with video is that after you've accomplished the above you still have 80% of the job ahead of you and each step of the way you're given more and more restrictions: directing the talent, picking music for the edit, directing the edit, directing the color. The majority of your time spent as a commercial director is not on set but in the commercial nuances of post production. It's exhausting and easy to lose touch with your original vision.
I can't believe I thought I wanted to stop taking pictures.
