John Hartford

When I was in high school and learning to play the guitar I noticed quite quickly that I was tone deaf. I (quietly) decided to take voice lessons at my all male athletically motivated boarding school with the choir teacher. He asked what I wanted to learn to sing and I said John Hartford's Gentle On My Mind. We practiced once a week for a few months and once, just once, I nailed every note in the song. This isn't the best version (best is on steve goodman's tribute album) but if you have the time, listen to the lyrics... it's a perfect song.
